Cuvier Island (Repanga) is a remote wildlife sanctuary off the eastern tip of the Coromandel Peninsula, rich in history and natural beauty. Though public access is restricted, the island plays a vital role in conservation, hosting rare birds like Pycroft’s petrels, tuatara, geckos, and flourishing native flora. The historic Cuvier Island Lighthouse, built in 1889, stands as a testament to the island’s maritime legacy. A fascinating part of New Zealand’s offshore treasures.
